Conflict

The conflict of the story is character v. character. The conflict of the story begins when Rod and Elspeth get kidnapped by the Smorkus Finders. The Smorkus Finders had some unfinished business with Rod. He never got a chance to explain himself. When Smorkus Finders kidnaps Rod and Elspeth, he brings them back to Dimension X. Rod and Elspeth try to escape and it doesn't work out the way Rod was hoping.
Climax

During the climax, Rod and Elspeth try to escape from the Smorkus Finders. The Smorkus Finders does not like this. He picks up Rod and asks why he is trying escape. Rod then tells the Smorkus Finders it is because he wants to go home. Smorkus Finders puts Rod down and goes in a room by himself. He comes out a few minutes later, and tells Rod that he will exchange his freedom for Rod's shoes. Rod thinks about it and then gives the shoes. As they travel back to Earth, Rod finds out the biggest news of his life. He is part alien and part human. His mother knew all along but never told Rod. Rod doesn't let his mom know that he knows the truth. Rod found out this is the best summer of his life.
Subplots and Conflicts
When Elspeth and Rod are on the spaceship with the crew, Elspeth wonders off. Elspeth makes Rod very mad, and Rod wonders off to find her. That's when Smorkus Finders invades the ship and kidnapps them.

In the begining, the crew came at night to pick up Rod and Elspeth at his home. Rod and Elspeth try to sneak out of the window, but his mother hears a noise. Elspeth falls and she is barely holding on to Rod's hand. Rod's mother finds out that they are gone. She starts freaking out.
